This weekend, the Fairmont Track & Field program will send one of its brightest stars to the biggest stage in Ohio as Violet Wright prepares to compete at the OHSAA Division I State Track & Field Championships.
Violet will compete Saturday morning in both hurdle events, beginning with the 100-meter hurdles at 10:00 AM, followed by the 300-meter hurdles at 11:25 AM, as she looks to continue what has already become one of the most impressive seasons in recent Fairmont history.
Entering the state championships, Violet currently stands as the 4th fastest 100-meter hurdler in Fairmont history and the 3rd fastest 300-meter hurdler ever to wear the Firebird uniform.
And history may not be done being written.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Violet currently sits just 0.42 seconds away from moving into 2nd place all-time, trailing only two legendary names in Fairmont history:
Shelly Stone (Class of 1984) — OHSAA Class A 3rd Place Finisher
and
Abbie Dalton (Class of 2007) — OHSAA Division I 4th Place Finisher
To even be mentioned alongside athletes of this caliber speaks volumes about the season Violet has put together.
But if you know Violet, you know she isn't simply satisfied with qualifying.
She has her eyes set on more.
She has her eyes set on school records.
She has her eyes set on finals.
She has her eyes set on leaving Columbus with her name permanently etched into Firebird history.
The path to Sunday is simple but unforgiving: the top two finishers from each heat plus the next five fastest times will advance to Sunday's finals, creating a field of nine finalists.
Regardless of what happens this weekend, Violet has already created a legacy that future generations of Firebirds will chase, as well as a mark that she will chase in her final season as well.
Please join us in congratulating Violet Wright as she proudly represents the Kettering Fairmont community on the biggest stage Ohio high school track and field has to offer.
100 Meter Hurdles — 10:00 AM

Let’s dominate this weekend, Violet.
The entire Fairmont community stands behind you.
