The Firebird Cross Country team celebrated the great achievements of 2 OHSAA State Championship runners this 2025 season!
Lucy Schafer, Freshman, finished in 8th place overall in the D1 SW Regional Championship to qualify as the 4th of 12 individuals for the state meet.
On Saturday afternoon, November 1st, Lucy competed in the OHSAA State Championship with the fastest 180 D1 female runners to finish in 32nd place, earning 2nd Team All-State honors. She joins a special group, as the 12th Fairmont girl runner to advance and race at the state meet and the first since 2008. Her finish place was the highest since 2004. She finishes the 2025 season 4th on the top 10 all-time 5k record board with 18:21.
Ethan Nartowicz, Junior, finished in 26th place overall in the D1 SW Regional Championship to qualify as the 6th of 14 individual qualifiers for the state meet.
In the last race of the day, on Saturday, November 1st, Ethan raced in the OHSAA State Championship with the fastest 180 D1 runners in the state. After being boxed in from the start line, he passed 60 runners over the following miles to finish in 119th place and notably earned Academic All-Ohio honors. Ethan is the 3rd Fairmont guy runner to race in the state meet since 2008, following most recent Dillon Wooten in 2021 and 2022, and 19th in history. He ends this 2025 season 16th on the all-time top 40 list with 16:05.

The achievements of the 2025 Firebird Cross Country individual runners were recognized and honored at the annual award night on November 3rd! Preparing for and racing the 5k distance requires commitment, diligence, physical stamina, mental strength and focus, and great determination. For that, we celebrate the entire team of runners!
