The Cross Country team competed for the last time as a group this 2025 season at the Regional Championship on Saturday, October 25th, in Troy. It was bittersweet with smiles, tears and also feelings of nostalgia, as seniors Abigail DelGrosso, Tia Weiss, Connor Layman, Grady McMeekin, Aidan Quadros and Chris Schutt wore their Firebird Cross Country team uniforms for the last time.
The entire post-season team--also including underclassmen Lola Becker, Sherry Dong, Charlotte Hardenbrook, Alanna Hawkins, Paige Murray, Evelyn Wesig, Brandon Amaguay, Jett Beck, Isaiah Gaston, Alec Hor, John Keeton and Will Stewart --was smiling in support of Lucy Schafer and Ethan Nartowicz who each qualified as individuals to race in the OHSAA State Championship. This great achievement was well-earned and deserved!
Lucy finished in 8th in the Regional Championship overall and advances as the 4th individual qualifier. Ethan finished in 26th overall to advance as the 6th individual qualifier. 2008 was the most recent season that a female Firebird achieved this goal and also that two Firebird Cross Country runners made the trip together.
We are so excited for Lucy and Ethan and their opportunity to race on Saturday, Nov. 1st!
The OHSAA Cross Country Championship will be held at Fortress Obetz.
3:30 PM D1 Girls Race and 4:10 PM D1 Boys Race.
