KETTERING - Last Saturday the Fairmont Men's Soccer Team hosted the Division I eighth ranked Yellowjackets of Perrysburg High School. Perrysburg grabbed the lead in the twelfth minute, and Fairmont nearly had an equalizer two minutes later, but Torin Brock’s shot was just wide. That was followed by quality chances from Bien Niyonkuru and Freddy Irakoze in the fifteenth and sixteenth minutes, but neither shot found the back of the net. With nine minutes left in the half Gavin Weaver sent a free kick from the 18-yard box to Brock, but his shot was just over the bar, and the same would happen with two minutes to go with another Irakoze shot missing high. Despite their opportunities, Fairmont went into halftime down a goal.

The Birds came out strong in the second half and had a good chance to tie in the forty-third minute, but
Nate Bittner’s header was saved from close range. One minute later Niyonkuru struck the post from close range, but it was eventually swallowed up by the Jackets' goalkeeper. The visitors then scored three goals in a five-minute span, ending the Birds eight-game winning streak with a final score of 0-4.
