The cross country team competed in the GWOC Championship on Saturday making it a bittersweet the last meet of the season for 2/3rds of the team of 60 runners.
Lucy Schafer raced to a strong and very close runner-up position to earn gold medal 1st team all-GWOC status. Scoring varsity runners also included Lola Becker (25th), Peyton Taylor, Charlotte Hardenbrook, Evelyn Wesig; and displacers, Alanna Hawkins and Abigail DelGrosso. Finishing out the varsity lineup were Sherry Dong, Paige Murray and Tia Weiss.
Scoring runners in the girls JV race were Ramona Cosmato, Gracie Blumenstock, Heidi Braun, Emma Finch and Aeyla Lamb.
Ethan Nartowicz was the top Firebird runner in the varsity race, finishing 10th overall and earning his gold medal 1st team all-GWOC award. Scoring teammates included Aidan Quadros (23rd), Alec Hor, Chris Schutt, and John Keeton; with displacers Will Stewart and Grady McMeekin. Finishing out the varsity race lineup were Connor Layman, Jett Beck and Isaiah Gaston.
Scoring in the boys JV race were Brandon Amaguay, Jadon See, Mason Jordan, Avery Edmonds, and Landen Whitted.
Lola Becker and Aidan Quadros were honored with GWOC Special Mention Awards.
The post-season team runners will continue training in preparation for the regional championship to be held 10/25.
