KETTERING - Last night the Fairmont Men’s Soccer Team recognized its outgoing senior class and closed out the 2025 GWOC schedule with a visit from the Vikings of Miamisburg High School. Fairmont had a few early chances through the first seven minutes of the game but could not find that elusive, early first goal. However, in the twelfth minute the Birds opened their account courtesy of a through ball from Freddy Irakoze to Bien Niyonkuru, who deftly put the ball in the net. Fairmont had several more chances in the following minutes but could not unlock the Vikings defense. Gavin Fourman made a spectacular save in the twenty-second minute from a 28-yard Viking free kick. Three minutes later, Bien would return the favor of a goal to Irakoze who doubled the lead, and that lead grew to three goals following a pass from Will Herman to Bien. The visitors managed to claw back a goal in the twenty-ninth minute from a header off a corner, and Fourman was called into action again with ten minutes remaining to keep the score 3-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Fairmont continued its onslaught of the Vikings goal and increased its lead in the
forty-sixth minute with a goal from Herman following a flick on from Torin Brock. The Birds continued to push for another goal, but several curling efforts from Irakoze that seemed destined for the back of the net were parried away by the visiting keeper at the last second. Three more goal line clearances from the visitors in the second half kept the game knotted at 4-1 in a game that could have easily been eight or nine.

Fairmont finished its GWOC season with a record of 5-2-0, and its eight-game winning streak
takes its season record to 12-2-1. Fairmont looks to continue its fine run of form at home against Perrysburg High School this Saturday, October 11th. Perrysburg enters the match ranked 7th in the state, while the Firebirds are ranked 9th. Reserve kicks off the action at 11:00 a.m., JV kickoff at 1:00 p.m., and Varsity kickoff at 3:00 p.m. Go Birds!
