KETTERING — Fairmont delivered a dominant performance on Senior Night at Roush Stadium, shutting out Northmont 31–0 while celebrating 34 seniors. The Firebirds improved their overall record at 3–4 and improved to 3–1 in Greater Western Ohio Conference play.
Fairmont struck quickly. After recovering a Northmont fumble on the opening series, Logan Doty raced 29 yards for the game’s first score. Just minutes later, quarterback JJ Hill connected with Nolan Stringer for a 55-yard touchdown strike, giving the Firebirds a 14–0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
The Firebirds controlled the game with their Triple-Option attack, rushing for 280 yards on 44 carries. Doty led the way with 80 yards and a touchdown. Damien Pattin added 71 yards and two scores, while Hill rushed for 55 yards and completed his only pass — the long touchdown to Stringer. Dominic Lewis and Reagan Heffner contributed key gains in the second half as Fairmont rotated backs and maintained pressure on the Thunderbolts’ defense.
Fairmont extended the lead in the second quarter with a 15-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 24-yard field goal from Kole Krejny. Pattin added a 23-yard touchdown run late in the half, sending the Firebirds into the locker room up 24–0.
The defense secured the shutout with timely plays. Northmont moved the ball through the air at times — quarterback Bryce Staggs completed 11 of 18 passes for 124 yards — but the Firebirds stiffened in the red zone. Davion Rand intercepted a pass at the goal line in the second quarter to end the Thunderbolts’ best scoring opportunity.
In the third quarter, Fairmont put the game out of reach with another methodical drive, finishing with Pattin’s second touchdown from four yards out. The Firebirds then controlled the clock the rest of the way, holding possession for nearly 29 minutes to Northmont’s 17.
Fairmont finished with 335 total yards compared to Northmont’s 161. The Firebirds registered 22 first downs to the Thunderbolts’ nine and did not commit a turnover. Defensively, Rand led the team with eight tackles, while Connor Robinson added six and broke up key passes.
The win keeps Fairmont firmly in the GWOC race. At 3–4 overall and 3–1 in league play, the Firebirds will look to carry momentum into the final stretch of the regular season.
